The Homestudy

Friday, February 18th, 2005

We have been doing a lot of work! We finished all of our homestudy paperwork, autobiographies and all and handed everything in on Thursday, our last class! It was so cool to say that, that was our last class! Our last two references will be in by early next week and then our social worker will come out to the house and then our homestudy will be complete! It will probably be another two weeks until we are done. From there we have our profile meeting where we learn how to make our profile, what kind of pictures to include, our birthparent letter, etc. We are so excited. This entire process has been very smooth. We love our social worker, she is great and the classes were very informative.

Steve and I are going to register either this weekend or next weekend at Babies R Us. I can’t wait to do that. I bought Steve a package of newborn diapers for Valentines Day along with two bottles of baby food! We took the diapers out of the package and put them in the nursery closet. They are the smallest things I have ever seen. I love looking at them.

I am starting to get a little antsy only because there are so many things that we need to do, paperwork, etc as adoptive parents where as if we were to have a child biologically we would never have to have a homestudy or take a class or sign release forms! It has been a lot of work mentally and emotionally.

I tell Steve almost everyday, that I feel our child has already been conceived and we just have not been matched yet. I love this child so much already and we haven’t even met. I was driving home from work the other day and heard this mother make a dedication to her daughter with a song called, “I knew I loved you before I met you.” I thought oh great a boy band song. Turns out that song is pretty appropriate for how much a parent can love a child. I cried the entire way home.

WE ARE SO READY TO BE PARENTS. BRING IT ON.

Lively Yellow!

This is the color we chose to paint the nursery! We had all of these swatches up on one of the walls in the nursery and chose this one. It is bright, but not to bright, and warm, which is what we were going for. We are painting the nursery today. This is so huge. I almost can’t wrap my brain around what we are doing today. Steve is up there now sanding the walls. I am anxiously waiting to start cutting in!

We will post pictures of the newly painted nursery as they become available. We are also going to be doing a mural and possibly a puffy cloud ceiling!

Please stay tuned as the nursery progresses!
